Virtual Assistant Position

Lots of people want to work from home. Believe it or not there are a variety of jobs that can be done from your home office. If you have office experience and the right equipment at home you may want to try for a virtual assistant position. As the title implies, a virtual assistant works from a remote location such as from their home office. Often they can work where they want as well as when they want. Of course some employers may require you perform certain tasks at certain times such as making telephone calls.


The duties of a virtual assistant may include making and sometimes receiving telephone calls, faxing papers, sending and receiving email, sorting and sending postal mail, scheduling appointments, data entry, marketing and more. It all depends on what you are qualified to do and what your employer needs. If you decide that a virtual assistant is the job for you the next thing you'll need is a well put together resume and cover letter. Applying for a virtual job is different from applying for a job in person, although you need professionalism for both.

You may want to join an organization for virtual assistants with membership requirements that provide credibility for their members. These various organizations and associations look good on your resume and give potential employers more confidence in your abilities. You will also need to look for work if you expect to find any. There are sites like Monster, Guru and Elance where you can apply for work and find plenty of home based jobs. You might also want to socialize and network on sites devoted to virtual assistants, sometimes you will find job listings there.

When you obtain a virtual assistant position, there may be contracts you will need to fill out and send in via postal mail or fax. These contracts protect both your interests and the interests of the person you are working with. Sometimes you may be considered an employee and other times you may be hired as an independent contractor. There will be tax forms to fill which will vary depending on what your employment status is. If you need help with the tax issues and licensing issues there are consultants and tax advisors who can help you with these aspects of your career.
