Professional Virtual Assistant

Lots of people wish they could work at home. Working at home is ideal for parents who want to stay home with their children while earning an income. One way to do this is to work as a professional virtual assistant. Of course not everyone can do this, there are skills you will need to possess before anyone will hire you for such a job. The good news is if you have a functional home office and basic administrative skills you should be able to find work in this field.

A virtual assistant works from home, or from wherever they want. If you have wireless Internet access and a cell phone you could, in theory, work from the beach or the coffee shop. However most assistants do choose to work from home because this is where their office materials are and where they prefer to be. You will need an office equipped with a computer, high speed Internet access, printer, copier and fax. And of course you will need a telephone and a mobile phone. You might even want to get a handheld PDA device so your clients can reach you on the go and you can perform various tasks for them no matter where you are.

Working as a virtual assistant is perfect for parents because the schedule is flexible. In addition you can often choose your own hours. There may be some times when you have to do a certain task at a certain time. However many tasks can be done at your convenience. You don't have to deal with annoying co-workers or see your boss every day, if ever at all. Some assistants work for clients they never see in person who are across the country or the world. There are some downsides to this career field also. You may not get employee benefits, and you may be responsible for paying for your own taxes if you are an independent contractor.

On this topic, many professional virtual assistant workers do not obtain health insurance from their employer. This means you will probably need to get your own health insurance. If you are not already covered by your spouse, you can get insurance for self-employed persons through a variety of major insurers like Humana, Anthem and many others. Before seeking work as a virtual assistant be sure to research and adhere to all tax laws and licensing requirements in your area.
